Dave Pallister
Rhythm & Lead Guitar/Lead Vocals
Dave Pallister has been a musician for going on 30 years. He was first exposed to music by his mom when she used to sit him on her lap and sing old R&B songs by Otis Redding, Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, and Johnny Mathis to him. He always holds fond memories of those times and counts them among the best memories of his mom.
Dave moved in with his dad when he was 5 years old and immediately expressed his interest in music. His dad obliged and gave Dave several noise-making devices with which Dave formed his first "band" called "The Early-Birds". In this band, Dave and his friends would wake up relatively early on Saturday mornings and go around the neighbourhood playing "music" at his neighbour's doorsteps.
Dave's first experience playing rock-n-roll came when he was nine and his father bought him a cheap drum set and also got him involved playing trombone with the school band. One day, when Dave was in the study in his house and had an old Kiss record on the turntable and was playing the melody lines on his trombone, dad came storming up the stairs and demanded that Dave stop because he was entirely too loud. Dave was very disappointed at his dad's criticism but did as he was told and packed up his trombone. As he was coming out of the study, dad was coming up the stairs with a guitar case in his hands. He took the trombone and gave Dave his first guitar, which was an acoustic Bavarian guitar made in 1947. Also in the case, Dave found a chord book. His dad told him that, if he could learn the basics of playing guitar by Christmas, which was a few months away, Dave would get an electric guitar. Needless to say, there was an electric guitar and amplifier under the tree in the Pallister household that year.
Dave spent most of his time practicing the guitar while he was a kid and jammed with a lot of his friends. He formed his first rock-n-roll band when he was 24 years old which was comprised of Mike Carico (Drums), Jeff Lake (Guitar), and Dave on bass. They never came up with a name for this band but Dave immensely enjoyed his experiences with Jeff and Mike. They even wrote an original song together but, sadly, the band broke up due to internal conflicts.
Dave has played in a wide variety of bands before forming Shadowchylde including a soft rock band that played mostly Journey, a gospel band that had 3 guitarists, and he has also played as a soloist during the contemporary service at an Episcopalian church. Dave now plays guitar, bass, drums and sings. All the songs on "Mixed Emotions" were performed by Dave excluding "Judging Me" and "Suffer" where the vocals were provided by Brian Vargas. Prior to the recording of "Mixed Emotions", Dave met a lyricist named Stephanie Taylor and she provided the lyrics for "Judging Me", "Suffer", "What I See", and "Dream Tonight".
Dave played all instruments on all the albums for Shadowchylde and wrote all the music. Dave recorded, mixed and produced both "The Sleeping Chylde Awakes" and "The Chylde Discovers Love" on his home computer using a Soundblaster Live sound card and Zoom505 signal processor for hardware and Cakewalk Guitar Tracks 2.0 and MTV Music Generator for the instruments and drums software. He played a Dean 7-string guitar and Austin 5-string bass on "The Sleeping Chylde Awakes" and the same guitar and a Fender P-bass for "The Chylde Discovers Love".
Dave Davies
Bass and lead/backing vocals
Dave Davies began his musical life in 1980 when he was given, in his words, "a very unusual acoustic guitar by my uncle which even had a red nylon string on it." He immediately delved into learning songs such as the traditional song "Sailing" as it was performed by Rod Stewart and Simon & Garfunkel's "Scarborough Faire". He also learned the basics through a guitar book by Dan Morgan, jazz guitarist extraordinaire.
Between 1980 and 1989, Dave and his long time friend, Darrell Farnsworth, began jamming together covering songs by Tangerine Dream and various classic rock bands such as Cream, The Beatles and Genesis. For this venture, Darrell played guitar and Dave picked up the bass guitar, his first bass being a Precision bass copy by Westone.
In 1989, Dave decided that he preferred playing bass and he and Darrell formed their first band, Paco, which played all covers from bands and artists such as Eric Clapton, Cream, Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, and the Doors. Unfortunately, Paco broke up due to the work commitments of it's members.
In the intervening years between 1989 and Dave's first meeting with Dave Pallister, Dave attended college while working as a security guard and also refined his chops playing several bass/vocal solo gigs in various pubs in the Nottingham area. Dave also began his experimentation with Electronic music using a Seiko MR1000 MIDI sequencer in conjunction with a Casio 650 which he used to make various music sequences and songs. While he enjoyed playing these gigs and dabbling with his sequencer immensely, he knew that, if he were to further his music career, he'd have to join a band again. Hence, he put out several flyers advertising himself as an "Available Bassist" but had very limited success until 2007 when he recieved a phone call from Dave Pallister asking him to come audition for Shadowchylde...and the rest is history...

Note from Founder: This one stumbled into my life shortly after I met his mum who tells me he has been using various family members as drum kits from the tender age of 2 hence the reason I invited him into the band.
He may not have been playing a REAL drum kit for long but I think he will eventually become a force to be reckoned with in the drum world.
